Communications Project Manager (Contract)
Location: New York, NY (local candidates only)
Term: Three-month contract, mid-September through mid-December, with the option to extend
Type: Part-time contract, ~15–20 hours/week on average, with occasional busier weeks around events
About the role:
We're looking for a sharp, self-directed operator to hold down our communications operations through the end of the year. As our core team focuses on... everything else, including a period of international travel — you'll be the person keeping our external presence running smoothly and on schedule.
This is a "chief of staff" style role: less about producing content from scratch, more about owning cadence, coordination, and follow-through across everything we put into the world. It's a strong fit for
-
Someone looking to transition from corporate comms / strategy roles into social impact tech
-
A graduate student who has run comms before and wants to run them again, with more on the line
-
A seasoned leader who's done the big jobs and now wants something part-time, hands-on, and worth their while
What will you work on:
-
Events: Maintain the event roster, coordinate logistics and communications around upcoming events, and keep stakeholders informed
-
Workflow: Track ongoing communications activity, keep projects moving, and flag anything at risk of slipping
-
Newsletter: Own the newsletter cadence end to end: scheduling, coordination, and getting each issue out the door on time
-
Magazine: We're producing our first magazine. We need someone to keep us honest about following the plan (and to make sure we don't sink too much time into it)
-
Social media (maybe): Depending on fit and bandwidth, take on social media scheduling and posting
Why We think this is a great gig:
-
It's interesting and meaningful: We and our portfolio work on some of the most important and complicated problems out there: humanitarian aid, food systems, ethical employment. Being part of it is interesting, energizing, and meaningful.
-
You own an important piece of the puzzle: Communications is how our work reaches the world, and it's your job to make sure we are doing it (including bossing us around)
Network and mentorship: You'll work directly with our leadership and plug into PollyLabs' network of startups, impact funds, and technology leaders. -
Flexibility: Designed to fit around studies, family schedule, or a career pivot.
Who you are:
We are a small team where every person matters. Our dream colleague will be:
-
Experienced in communications, coordination, or operations, through work, school, volunteering, or projects of your own
-
Highly organized and reliable; hand you a set of moving pieces and they all stay in the air
-
A strong communicator who can represent our voice
-
Quick to learn and comfortable stepping into an operation mid-stream
-
Based in New York and available for the full contract period
-
Someone who takes the work seriously, but not themselves. Ideally funny, someone you could get stuck with in an airport and be okay about it.
-
Bonus: experience with nonprofit or mission-driven communications, newsletters, or community storytelling
Salary rate range: $25-$50/hour, depending on experience and our budget
