We are looking for an MBA / MPA  student (open to other degrees) who is excited to join a fast-paced organization shaking up the impact startup landscape and be a part of creating new solutions for our agriculture system. What is PollyLabs?

PollyLabs is a startup studio & fund that incubates and backs impact ventures that leverage existing technologies to solve worthy problems. Over the next 5 years, the PollyLabs team will incubate, finance, and spin out ~25 mission-led for-profit start-ups that repurpose technology to tackle major societal problems. Some of the problems we are working on right now include: increasing the adoption of regenerative agriculture, improving employment opportunities for migrant workers, and more effectively managing real-time disasters to minimize loss of life, harm, and economic losses.

 

What will you work on

As an extern, you will be working closely with our team to explore innovative robotics and automation solutions aimed at addressing labor shortages faced by small and medium-sized farmers. This role involves researching key challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in the context of specialty crop harvesting, and identifying how emerging technologies can optimize labor efficiency. You'll be part of an exciting phase of ideation and discovery, helping to shape cutting-edge solutions that can make a tangible impact on the future of farming.​

Who is the ideal candidate?

​

• Extensive research experience, market research is a plus

• Excellent critical thinker who can connect the dots quickly and contribute ideas and perspectives

• Enjoys unpacking ambiguous challenges and navigating the unknown 

• Strong communicator that is comfortable with asking lots of questions and digging deep 

• Interest for emerging technologies, particularly robotics and automation

• Experience from mgmt consulting, innovation methodology, or design agency, a plus but not mandatory

• An optimist, has a good sense of humor, and is able to maintain a positive attitude and a growth mindset even when dealing with challenges

• Tech-savvy and comfortable with new technologies. Willing to learn and explore new tools and systems (technical expertise is not required)

We are looking for a student to join us for a 10-12 week externship starting at the end of September/October 2024. The position is unpaid. As an extern, you should anticipate working ~8 hours per week, and ideally, be able to visit our Upper West Side office once a week.
